Tin How Temple
Location: 125 Waverly Pl, San Francisco, CA 94108
Tin How Temple (also known as Tianhou Temple) was founded in 1852. It is the oldest Taoist temple in San Francisco, and also the oldest still-operating Chinese temple in the United States. It is dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu, who is known as Tin How (Empress of Heavens) in Cantonese. In the temple, people can pray by Jiangxiang, a ritual of worshiping or praying in a Chinese traditional religion. They can also write names on a red paper and attach it on the lanterns.
